Here is a review of the concert at
St Andrews Hall
'Harmony Showcase' a joint singout with Norwich Harmony and Fine City Chorus
Joy, enthusiasm and sheer happiness shone through this concert. Norwich Harmony gave us a splendid evening of toe-tapping tunes renewed and refreshed by the close harmony treatment.
The programme started with” I’d like to teach the world to sing” which set the standard for the rest of the evening. Excellent intonation and articulation ensured that we heard every syllable. Some of the songs were enhanced with admirable choreography. How do these singers remember words, music and movement?
Every song was enjoyable but I particularly liked” Tiger Rag” and “Gimme a Man”.
All credit goes to Alison Thompson, the conductor, who gets full concentration from the group throughout and who sang with the quartet so beautifully too.
The Men’s chorus, called “Fine City Chorus “sang some items during the evening and joined the ladies in a haunting interpretation of “Sunrise, Sunset”
The audience wondered what was coming next when it was announced that a silent order of nuns called The Sisters of Perpetual Harmony would give a rendering of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. Gales of laughter rang out round the hall while the “nuns” kept very straight faces. Had we already seen them earlier?
Altogether a wonderfully happy evening. We all went out smiling.
